The classic Canadian hockey pool
Hockey pool draft
The draft pool is the original Canadian hockey pool: everyone meets (at the office, the bar or on a call), drafts playoff players one at a time, and follows their points to the Cup. Office Hockey Pool runs the draft board, the clock and the standings.

How the draft works
- The commissioner sets the roster (default 6 F, 4 D, 2 G) and snake or straight order.
- When everyone has joined, the commissioner starts the draft. The order is random, or the order people joined.
- The team on the clock picks from a searchable list of players. Positions that are already full are hidden.
- The board refreshes itself on every phone. The commissioner can make any pick, which is handy at a bar where one laptop runs the draft.
- "Best available" picks the top-ranked player left, for anyone who steps away.
Scoring
Skaters score 1 point per goal and 1 per assist; goalies score 2 per win and 2 per shutout. The Pool Pass lets you change any of these. A mistaken pick can be undone by the commissioner.
Tips for draft night
- Draft after the playoff matchups are set and before game one.
- Goalies on teams that go deep are gold: two points a win adds up over four rounds.
- Read the hockey pool rules for a short rules sheet you can share.
