Hockey pool scoring systems
Scoring decides what kind of pool you have. Here are the common systems, what each one rewards, and our defaults.

| Format | Scores | Default points |
|---|---|---|
| Bracket | Correct series winner by round | 1 / 2 / 4 / 8 |
| Bracket | Correct number of games | +1 |
| Pick'em | Correct game winner | 1 |
| Salary cap and draft | Goal / assist | 1 / 1 |
| Salary cap and draft | Goalie win / shutout | 2 / 2 |
Bracket pools
- Doubling (our default: 1-2-4-8): the later rounds matter most, so a good Cup pick can win it.
- Flat (1-1-1-1): rewards picking many first-round series right. Leaders tend to pull away early.
- Games bonus: an extra point for the exact series length. It breaks a lot of ties.
Player pools (salary cap and draft)
- Points only (our default for skaters): 1 per goal, 1 per assist.
- Goal-weighted: 2 per goal, 1 per assist. Favours snipers over playmakers.
- Goalies: 2 per win and 2 per shutout is our default. Without goalie scoring, goalies are useless picks.
